POVEDA represents the dynamic collaboration between Cuban singer/songwriter, Roberto Poveda, and American drummer/producer, Layton Weedeman. Their journey commenced in 2015 with a serendipitous encounter in the elevator of their shared residence in Brooklyn's Kensington neighborhood. United by a shared vision, they embarked on a musical endeavor that merges the rich tapestry of Cuban folk music with influences from jazz, hip-hop, and diverse global styles.
With a keen focus on preserving the essence of Cuban tradition while infusing it with contemporary flair, POVEDA is a project that breathes new life into Roberto's extensive catalogue spanning three decades. Through this collaboration, they delve deep into the soul of the Cuban troubadour, reshaping and revitalizing his timeless melodies for a modern audience.
